I have been a member of the Southern Cross Health Club for over two years and am writing this testimonial as a tribute to the club for the services it provides.
When I first decided to join a gym I visited five health clubs in South Canberra to assess the facilities, programs and standard of instruction. The Southern Cross Health Club seemed to have it all. I can now say in hindsight that my choice was justified.
One of the main considerations which attracted me to the club was the friendly introduction I was given by the employees at the front counter. This is something I have found exists right throughout the club. The instructors are not just welcoming and friendly but are also very professional in their approach to members’ health requirements.
After a period of instruction at the gym I joined the “Over 50’s” exercise classes which are conducted every day. These classes were started to meet the demand from “baby boomers” wanting to maintain a healthy life style. The club provides not only the facilities and instruction to do this but also hosts regular classes on diet and nutrition and other lifestyle issues.
Regular exercise is important for our age group but it is even more important to receive correct instruction in the appropriate exercises for our age. This is where the instructors at the club excel. The group classes are conducted with an awareness by the instructors that they are dealing with people from 50 to (nearly) 90 years of age in some cases and the exercises are always tailored to accommodate each individual’s level of fitness. Assistance is provided at a personal level when the need is identified. The response to these classes has been so great that the club has introduced more classes each day with varying levels of fitness requirements.
One of the benefits of attending the supervised exercise classes is that members get to meet a wide range of people and make new friends. The club has excellent facilities for social activities and morning tea after classes has become an enjoyable routine for many. This has extended beyond the club and new social networks have been established.
Last year the club sponsored a group of the “Over 50’s” in the “City to Surf” fun run in Sydney. The club gave every participant a club shirt and provided a bus for the return trip, which was much appreciated. The club is sponsoring us again in 2008 and we expect more members to join in the fun.
The Southern Cross Club provides an important service to the community and is an asset valued by all of it’s members.
