GI vs GL

Most people would have heard of the Glycemic index (GI) by now. If not, it is the rate at which glucose is released into the blood and is related to carbohydrates . So the lower the GI the slower energy is released and this helps with cravings and weight loss and keeping your blood sugar in check. There is also another term used when talking about GI, Glycemic Load (GL). Even though you may eat alot of low GI food your blood sugar levels may still rise rapidly depending on the amount of carbohydrates you have eaten or the glycemic load. So be careful of not only what type of carbohydrates you are eating but also the amount you are eating. If you buy food and you can find a GI index on the packet look at the nutritional information. Look at carbohydrates vs sugar if for example sugar makes up a majority of the carbohydrates in the meal it will normally be a high GI food.
