Exercising while your pregnant

Sunday, May 31, 2009
You can still do the things you want even if you become pregnant, it does not have to mean the end of your health for the next 9 months. There are some slight considerations that you need to consider first though, you should not be attempting heavy lifting especially doing exercises that involve overhead lifting. This is puts allot of pressure on the spine and on the uterus itself. you must remember that during this time your weight is distributed differently so your body adjusts by tilting the pelvis which increases the curve of your lower back. This adds more stress to the spine itself so its important not to add any pressure that does not need to be added. Cardiovascular exercise is still very much an important part of yours and your baby's life just keep the heart rate in check, performing exercise at a lower heart rate about 140 beats per minute or less is considered safe. If you want to push your self go for longer durations or aim for more distance don't increase the resistance. Try working out your pelvic floor muscles before the pregnancy as they become stretched afterwards and this can help incontinent which is common in women after pregnancy. So you can still continue to workout even if you are pregnant just make sure to consult your GP and your trainer before undergoing any type of fitness program.
